Born in the South, raised in the burbs of the Midwest, then off to school in New York… and then why not… Los Angeles! Yes, LA-based filmmaker Phillip Montgomery has traversed this great nation, landing in the Golden State where he has gone on to direct numerous critically acclaimed films and TV shows, along with a bunch of award-winning commercials for brands such as Lexus, Jack Daniel's, Guinness, Uber, IBM, and more. His roots actually come from the world of social justice and documentary filmmaking with the 2012 release of his first feature film #ReGENERATION, exploring the state of activism. Narrated by Academy Award Winner and defacto Ken doll, Ryan Gosling, with a voice like that, a ton of festival laurels and awards rolled in. And with a keen cinematic eye and a passion in both scripted and non-scripted, he has been blurring the lines between storytelling and reality ever since. In addition to the bread and butter work he does in commercials, he's recently been directing television for PARAMOUNT+ and HISTORY CHANNEL. And don't miss the short film 'BIG BOY PANTS,' a Vimeo Staff Pick starring Finn Wittrock (ORIGINS, VERSACE). In 2018, he received the Cannes Silver and Bronze Lions for his experiential commercial work with the 60th Anniversary Grammy Awards. That same year, his genre-bending dance/horror film CHILD OF THE SKY had a busy festival run and premiered at the 2018 New York Film Festival. In 2013, Phillip earned a place in SHOOT MAGAZINE’s prestigious New Directors Showcase and the Cannes 2013 New Director Award for his documentary work with the 2012 Olympic Games for P&G. He also wrote this bio and does not find it weird at all to talk about himself in the 3rd person. He suggests trying it sometime.
